Skilled Workers (Professional) Category
This immigration category exists to attract specialists and professionals who are selected as permanent residents based on their ability to become economically established in Canada. To qualify;
1. The applicant must possess at least one year of experience, within the past ten years, in one or more of the following occupational groups:
0111: Financial Managers 0213: Computer and Information Systems Managers 0311: Managers in Health Care 0631: Restaurant and Food Service Managers 0632: Accommodation Service Managers 0711: Construction Managers 1111: Financial Auditors and Accountants 2113: Geologists, Geochemists and Geophysicists 2143: Mining Engineers 2144: Geological Engineers 2145: Petroleum Engineers 3111: Specialist Physicians 3112: General Practitioners and Family Physicians 3141: Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists 3143: Occupational Therapists 3142: Physiotherapists 3151: Head Nurses and Supervisors 3152: Registered Nurses 3215: Medical Radiation Technologists 3233: Licensed Practical Nurses 4121: University Professors 4131: College and Other Vocational Instructors 6241: Chefs 6242: Cooks 7213: Contractors and Supervisors, Pipefitting Trades 7215: Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades 7217: Contractors and Supervisors, Heavy Construction Equipment Crews 7241: Electricians (Except Industrial and Power System) 7242: Industrial Electricians 7251: Plumbers 7252: Steamfitters, Pipe fitters and Sprinkler System Installers 7265: Welders and Related Machine Operators 7312: Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics 7371: Crane Operators 7372: Drillers and Blasters – Surface Mining, Quarrying and Construction 8221: Supervisors, Mining and Quarrying 8222: Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service 9212: Supervisors, Petroleum, Gas and Chemical Processing and Utilities
2. If you have a minimum of one year of experience in one of the above-noted occupations, you will then need to accumulate 67 points to be successful under this category. You can obtain points for the following attributes:
ü Education - You will receive 20 points if you have higher education, and 25 points for having a Master`s Degree or a PhD.
ü Age - Individuals aged 21 to 49 receive the maximum of 10 points. If you are younger than 18 years of age or older than 54, you will receive zero (0) points for this category.
ü Work Experience in Your Profession - You can accumulate a maximum of 21 points for work experience if you have worked for longer than four years. If you have no work experience whatsoever, you are not qualified to apply for immigration.
ü Guaranteed Employment in Canada - If you have a guaranteed job in Canada, you automatically receive 10 additional points. In order to receive a guaranteed job you must file a separate application with the Canadian government. ü Knowledge of English or French Languages - Those individuals who speak either one of Canada’s official languages fluently receive 16 points, and persons with fluent French and English will receive an additional 8 points. Fluency is verified through acceptable language examination scores or equivalent proof of proficiency. For English language, IELTS is the examination of choice, while French is verified through TEF.
ü Relatives in Canada - If you have close relatives in Canada such as, siblings, parents, children, aunts or uncles, then you can receive additional 5 points.
ü Education or Work Experience in Canada - If you studied anywhere in Canada for two years, or if you worked in Canada for at least one year, you will receive 5 points.
In order to successfully immigrate to Canada you must receive a total of 67 points.
